Sabah and Sarawak are home to over 688 bird species and more than 221 species of mammals, including some of the world’s rarest and most endangered wildlife. Around 60 bird species and 44 mammals are endemic to Borneo—meaning you won’t find them anywhere else on Earth. From the critically endangered helmeted hornbill to the Bornean orangutan, pygmy elephant, and proboscis monkey, these rainforests are one of the last safe havens for truly unique wildlife.
